About the Rover P4 When making its first appearance in 1949, the new P4 Series Rover was a considerable break with previous Rover traditions. Gone was the pre-war styling with separate wings to be replaced by an up-to-the-minute style almost seen as heresy by some of the traditional Rover clientele. However, this new series was to more than prove its mettle, with models ranging from the 2-litre 60 through to the 2.6-litre 95/100/110 Series, which ran until the P4 Series was superseded in 1964.
Quintessentially British and superbly
built, the P4s were amongst the hardest wearing cars of their period.
The Rover 95 was introduced in 1963 alongside the 110 model and was an unplanned extension to the life of the P4 range due to the delays in introduction of the Rover 2000 (P6). |

The 95 was more powerful then the Rover 80 which it replaced. The power unit was essentially the same as the Rover 100 with a few internal detail changes mainly inspired by the parallel development of the Rover 3-litre and the contemporary Rover 110. It developed 102 bhp and could reach 93 mph (though I have never tried it myself!).My 1963 example of the 95 is in superb condition. The car having been first registered in Worcester, it remained with its original lady-owner until the late 1990s. In recent times it has been enjoyed by owners in South Wales. A total of 3,680 Rover 95's were produced and the last P4 of all was a 95 which left the line in May 1964. |
